I am an economist at the University of Missouri, visiting senior fellow and acting director of academic outreach at the Center for Growth and Opportunity, and a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. I received my PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and my bachelor's degree from Duke University.

I primarily study the consequences of debt for the macroeconomy. To date, my research has focused on these issues in relation to the housing and student loan crises of the past decade.

My work also highlights the economic effects of household risk, market frictions, and government intervention in financial markets.
